Greyhound Greyhound by Swedish House Mafia, my favourite tune at the moment… would love it to be played during a 1500m race, like the music played during Rollapaluza roller racing, for a bit of motivation.

This week is a rest / training week, following 9 weeks of solid racing (track, road and bike). On Monday I enjoyed, actually enjoyed is probably the wrong word, I endured 45 mins of sports massage from the Ewok. I have started seeing Mr Ewok once a week now, to prevent niggles from developing into injuries, and have really felt a difference; he uses just the right amount of caution and brutality that initially makes your muscles feel like they’ve been run over… but in the following days makes them feel refreshed.

He has also set up a very pro looking website check out his testimonials! The Ewok regularly treats a numbers of professional ‘hitters’, with local boy Scott Thwaites (Endura Racing, winner of 2 Halfords Tour Series Rounds, numerous Premier Calendar events including Tour of the Reservoir and Otley Criterium 2011)  heading up the big names. I really recommend Mr Ewok as a sports therapist, as he has a genuine interest in all sports and a natural understanding of physiology.

On Wednesday Otley AC hosted the ‘Otley 10’ mile road race, rather than running, I opted for marshalling duties on one of the final corners before the finish. It always amazes me how many of the runners seem to be smiling after almost 10 hilly miles of running, and I really enjoyed watching and encouraging them as they came past. Matt John, of Otley AC, won the race in 56.00 with Pauline Munro 1st lady in 1.05.23.

After some heavy mileage last week (44 miles, the most this year!) I’ve been doing a bit of cross training this week, heading out on the bike on Monday and doing some Circuits at Club Energy on Wednesday… everything seems to hurt after circuits! Tuesdays track session went well, although I only had 2 x 300m and 2 x 500m to complete, they were pretty speedy. Saturday will see me return to Boddington for some grass reps… a session I never look forward to, but probably benefits me the most. Next Stop: Aviva 2012 Trials!
