The story of my summer so far! One step forward, two steps back.
Following a cracking incident free winters training this summer every time I approach decent shape my body seems to self destruct with either injury or illness. It’s not ideal and I hope it is just a run of bad luck that is set to end soon!
Before my 3k outing at Stretford a couple of Tuesdays ago I was feeling iffy – tired and slightly off peak… a feeling that transpired a couple of days later as a form of tonsillitis and lasted almost a week. This combined with taking antibiotics for a bladder infection pretty much knocked me out for a week and a half and meant I had to withdraw from the England AAA and Inter-counties champs – an event I had targeted as my steeplechase comeback. Instead of the champs I tried to do a 4 x 800m steeple session… and failed, pulling out after the second rep completely exhausted!
So now my steeple season has been pushed back further… commencing (I hope!) on the 25th August at a 2k chase in Stretford and continuing with a couple of 3k chases in September as a last ditch attempt to salvage something from the summer.
Instead of racing a chase at Belgium this weekend I have decided, due to dubious form, to compete in the final Northern League for Leeds City over the 400m hurdles as well as the 1500m and 4×400 relay. It’s always nice to compete as a team and the 400m hurdles will be a chance to really test my hurdling technique.
